Gay rights advocates in Portland, Maine rallied together Saturday in a support of a lesbian couple whose home was vandalized in what local police call a hate crime. About 200 people turned out in downtown Portland's Monument Square, the day after two juveniles, ages 12 and 14, were arrested on a string of charges in connection with the June 1 break-in and vandalism at the mobile home of Keri Fuchs and Linda Boutaugh.

We’ve known for a long time that Maine is a friendly place for gay residents and vacationers. This is nothing new. What is new is that this year, residents are having no trouble at all finding parking spaces in mid-coast Maine during the peak of tourist season. Translation: Maine needs our gay dollars.
